The lab investigates AI and agentic systems in their organisational context: the problem, the data, the architecture and the consequences of action.

Research frames questions. Architecture makes responsibilities and constraints explicit. Experiments challenge assumptions; products emerge when there is enough evidence to justify further development.

Independence leaves room to question an attractive idea, compare alternatives and stop when the evidence does not support it. Governance and human accountability are part of the architecture from the outset.

Cobalt Giraffe complements Phil’s professional work. It gives him an independent place to explore emerging technology, test architectural ideas and build things outside the constraints of a particular employer or client engagement. The work here reflects the curiosity, architectural discipline and habit of testing assumptions that he brings into organisations.

The lab is not a consultancy. Products may emerge from its investigations, but commercialisation is not its purpose.

Substance rather than a catalogue of claims.

The site is organised around work that can be examined: the problem, hypothesis, architecture, build, evaluation, learning and present status.

Future Architecture Field Notes will reconstruct recurring enterprise problem classes without identifying clients or exposing proprietary material. Reconstructed or synthetic examples will always be labelled clearly.

Cobalt Giraffe is not a catalogue of client engagements or unverified capabilities. Research, prototypes and working products are identified by their actual status; publication does not imply validation.
